This vintage silver tone dangling heart on bow brooch is quite adorable and could be among the many “sweetheart pins” of the 1940′s.
Measures 1 7/8 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches long. Unsigned. Very good vintage condition with tiny wear on top of bow which is hardly visible.
Sweetheart Pins were worn by the ”sweetheart” (wife, mother, girlfriend, sibling, etc) of a member of the US Military during WW 2. Some Sweetheart Pins were simple, while others were expensive jewelry. The idea was to let everyone know that you had a loved one in the military.
Pamela Wiggins tells us, ”Sweetheart jewelry was machine made and sold to servicemen abroad, but many pieces were also handcrafted in the trenches.
Although prices have risen during the recent past, many sweetheart jewelry pieces can be found reasonably priced.”
