Metlox Potteries produced the popular California Ivy style beginning in 1946 and added this lovely California Apple design in 1949 by their Poppy Trail Division. In this pattern we offer the gravy boat. Obviously produced in California with logo on the bottom of the piece.
Excellent condition.
”California Ivy shape released in 1946, introduced Metlox’s refreshing, different approach to dinnerware desigin under the leadership of Evan K. Shaw. It was the first of many successful patterns created on distinctive shapes by Shaw’s talented desigin team of Bob Allen and Mel Shaw. The appealing unpretentiousness of California Ivy was achieved by the incorporation of the coupe shapes for the flatware, simple bowl designs, and straightforward, streamlined contours for the serving pieces. Brown vine handles and finials added a decorative touch to the overall design.” From Collector’s Encyclopedia of Metlox Potteries Second Edition.
California Ivy’s popularity inspired two other hand-decorated patterns – the California Apple and California Fruit, both in 1949.
