In antique books, we offer this text book of yesteryear (Copyright 1919), for your collection: History of American Literature by Leonidas Warren Payne, Jr., Associate Professor of English in The University of Texas. Published by Rand McNally & Company, Chicago, New York.
Fair to good condition. The cover is very worn but the pages are all bound, there are notes inside as well as a stamp on the inside cover which says, "Texas Book Label, This book is the property of the State of Texas, Abernathy School, Hale Co." On the label is a list of three students whom it was issued from 1928-1931. The names look like they are: Vester Pope, Karlene Abatts, J.D. Vineyard. There is also a drawing probably of a female teacher on the inside front page. She is definitely dressed like the 1920's and her hairstyle depicts the 1920's. At the top of another page is the name, Virgie Ellene Slemmons Rhodes, who was my grandmother. This book had to come into her possession some time in the 1930's.
